The Global TB Caucus addresses tuberculosis at the Inter-parliamentary Union

Doha, Qatar - From the 4th to 10th April, delegations of parliamentarians from over 140

countries gathered in Doha, Qatar, for the 140th Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. The event covered several topics, from peace and security to education, and the parliamentary work around global health. To address the subject of Tuberculosis, Ms Ana Paula Dias Santos MP (Cape Verde), member of both IPU and the Global TB Caucus, attended the Health Advisory Group meeting and presented data and highlighted the importance of keeping TB in the agenda of the forum.

The MP also presented the commitments made by countries at the UN High Level Meeting on TB, held in September 2018, and explained why a concerted effort is needed to deliver the targets by 2022, and ultimately achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

The other members or parliament discussed the importance of addressing the issue and mentioned that it fits under the work around Universal Health Coverage in development within the IPU. They are currently working on a resolution to be presented on the next assembly.

The group also heard from other partners like WHO, UNAIDS, PMNCH and the Global Fund.
