Hon Ana Paula Santos, member of the Global TB Caucus, met with the President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Dr. Jorge Carlos Fonseca, last Friday March 1st, to present the outcomes from the High Level Meeting on TB held last September 26th during the UN General Assembly. In the meeting with her Head of State, Hon Santos shared the targets agreed for the Political Declaration and what those numbers mean for the country.
Through the Political Declaration, Heads of State and Government and representatives of States and Governments assembled at the UN in New York committed to provide diagnosis and treatment to 40 million people with TB by 2022. For Cape Verde, that means to diagnose and treat 1,800 people with TB up until 2022.
In addition to Hon Santos, Hon Ana Paula Moeda, also MP from Cape Verde, attended the session with Dr. Fonseca. They were both welcomed by the President, who has shown interest and affirmed to be open to a collaborative work, as per presented by the MPs.
