The Caucus and Northwestern Pritzker School of Law Access to Health Project
Since the establishment of the Caucus, members of the network have been drafting TB, UHC or health related legislation in their countries. However, once the Caucus started collaborating with leading human rights and legal experts at
Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, leading a global movement to legislate on the issue.
Today, legislation about TB prevention and treatment, including the duties of the State to ensure the rights of people affected by TB has been implemented in several Caucus countries, including the Philippines, Peru, Paraguay and Georgia.
The Global TB Caucus and Northwestern Pritzker School of Law Access to Health Project have collaborated since 2017.
Survey and analysis
The Global TB Caucus has conducted a survey and analysis of TB legislation around the world to identify trends and approaches, with the support of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.
Workshop
The Global TB Caucus organised and led a workshop on TB, human rights and law for members of the Americas TB Caucus and civil society representatives from across the region in the Hague, Netherlands during the 49th Union World Conference on Lung Health in 2018.
Legislative resources
The Global TB Caucus produced legislative resources for MPs and civil society organisations entitled Tuberculosis and the Law in Latin America and the Caribbean: Guidelines for Legislators and Civil Society and Key considerations for Tuberculosis legislation, as well as a recent briefing about legislation & Covid-19.
Plenary Session
The Global TB Caucus held a Plenary Session on a human-rights based legislation at the 50th Union World Conference on Lung Health in Hyderabad, India in 2019, with the support of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.
Regional Summit
The Global TB Caucus organised and led a Regional Summit on public health legislation for members of the Americas TB Caucus and civil society representatives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2019., with the support of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.
